Hong Kong's pineapple bun is a bun with butter

🇭🇰 I hope everyone has had dinner.
Let me tell you about the "pineapple bun" in Hong Kong, which is really a bun with a slab of butter.
🧈 Yes, just a bun with just a piece of butter inside. On the menu it is called "pineapple bun with iced butter". There is no pineapple in it. The name comes only from the checkered brown pattern on top, which looks like pineapple skin. 🍍

In Hong Kong I was actually looking for the famous Hong Kong waffles, but everywhere I saw signs for this bun instead, and Asian travelers in their reviews of the city recommend it a lot. How could I skip it?
Nothing special: a piece of butter in the middle of an ordinary soft white bun. It tastes exactly as you imagine. No magic 😁

For some reason, people in just these four places (Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and southern mainland China) love pastry served with a piece of butter. On the mainland you may get margarine too.
An acquaintance told me that some people there drink coffee with a slab of butter on the side instead of a slice of cake. It has been like this in recent years: a real butter trend.

By the way, whose grandmother used to make pancakes and put a pat of butter on top? )) 🥞 That is what I would like on a main street in Hong Kong right now!

📍Here is the location of one of Hong Kong's popular cafes, where for a few dollars you can get a set: a bun with butter and a coffee. It is not quite coffee, though, more chicory and milk. They poured me the same drink at school as a kid, so it was pure nostalgia, and I remembered that very taste ))
There is also French toast, naturally with a piece of butter as well. I decided to order it too.
After such a rich dinner I had to run a couple of kilometers before bed 😁
