Hong Kong's monster buildings

🇭🇰 A whole district of public housing. Even looking at these blocks, you start to feel short of air.
Some of the courtyards have become popular with tourists, and locals have opened small businesses on the ground floors (barbershops, coffee places), so the area has turned into a hipster neighborhood.

Walk a little further and the buildings keep going up and sideways, but the tourists are gone. You can step into the local market with its vegetables and fruit. It is very clean, and the prices feel more like a Vietnamese village than Hong Kong. Cash is not even necessary: you can pay by QR code with Alipay, the app you need anyway across mainland China.

It felt a little surreal to see happy tourists from Asia next to a local man collecting cardboard. He gets no benefit from all these crowds, and he lives right there. I had some paper money on me, about US$10, and I gave it to him. He started bowing like a Japanese person and even teared up, which was nice. Then he dropped his cardboard work and ran off somewhere. I hope it was for something useful 😃

So Hong Kong is not only tall modern towers and bridges.

📍The location is here

And these are Hong Kong's modern residential blocks: the same huge monster buildings, but with bigger apartments (from 10 m²).
